Tomas Transtromer, Poet, wins the Nobel Prize

Tomas Tranströmer, a Swedish poet, won the Nobel Prize for literature today. Here’s a bit of one poem below and six others here. Enjoy.

Allegro

After a black day, I play Haydn,
and feel a little warmth in my hands.
The keys are ready. Kind hammers fall.
The sound is spirited, green, and full of silence.
The sound says that freedom exists
and someone pays no tax to Caesar.

  1. Transtromer is good but I was hoping for Adonis. Nonetheless. thanks for the links.

  2. Yes, that IS a good choice, but with so many people accusing the Nobel committee of playing politics with selections, I think they deliberately went against Adunis. “Syrian, really? Now? Why?” Thanks for your comment.
